My brother-in-law, Jim is a big Cincinnati Reds fan. How did he, from Wisconsin Rapids, become such fan? As he just told me, growing up there was usually one baseball game on TV and often it was the Reds as "they were good." Also, Milwaukee didn't have the Brewers until the 1970's. So, in anticipation of his visit, we got tickets to the spring training game between the Red and Kansas City Royals in Goodyear. As much as we wanted to see World Series Cubs against the Reds, none of us could justify spending as much as the Cubs team wanted for a pre-season ticket.
It was a beautiful day in Arizona and we had great tickets, right between home plate and first base. We invited my long-time friends, Lynn and Kathy, who live in Goodyear to join us. The Reds scored one run very quickly. Then the Royals had 5 runs in the fourth inning and then two more runs in the sixth, so they were ahead 7-1 through the seventh inning. The 8th inning the Reds brought in 8 runs and held on the 9-7 lead until the end of the game!
We spent a very pleasant night at Lynn and Kathy's on their patio eating pizza and snacks. What a great way to end the day. Baseball and Best Friends....a good combo.
