Today we went up to Crater Lake, it's been on my Bucket List for years. Most have people have seen pictures of Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the US and a beautiful blue color when it's sunny! Guess what, it wasn't sunny today. It was "moody as the park ranger said as we viewed the beautiful movie about the park and lake. It was cloudy, hazy and smokey in the air. Well, no matter what it's mood, we saw it and drove the 33 miles rim drive.
Not only is this lake deep, but due to the volcano 7700 years ago, its rim almost looks like a giant bowl. Our first view of the lake, you can barely see the other side. That is Wizard Island in the middle.
This is another "island," Phantom Ship. It looks small, but it's 200 feet wide and 170 feet high.
Here's a couple of shots of The Pinnacles, made of volcanic lava.
The day did get slightly less hazy and more sunlight came into the picture. Can't you see? :)
This lady posed for us as we left the park
Even away from the fires, the hills above Ashland looked moody, don't you agree?
