Room with a View

Drove to New York City today and I had the last hours driving duty, so I got to drive in NYC.  Actually it was a piece of cake!  Also, FYI, in Connecticut, the speed limit sign means that IS the slowest you should go!

We are staying in South Street Seaport area at same hotel we stayed in the last we visited NY (about 10 +/- years ago).  It was flooded with six feet of water during Hurricane Sandy.  Here is the view tonight from our room of the Brooklyn Bridge.

We had dinner at the Fraunces Tavern a historic building that George Washington said farewell to his Continental Army officers.

Here's the dining room.

On the walk over and back, we saw LOTS of people....young, old, families, dog walkers, bikers and "urban homesteaders" (as hubby called them).  One on the bench and another walking, just a half block from our hotel.  That's a painting on buildings behind them.

Here's other photos of the "canyons" of New York City.

The following building I call the "Nikon" building. :)

We walked by the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial and found it a very sobering experience.

You may not be able to see it, personal letters written to family members are etched in the glass blocks.

Did you know that youngest serviceman killed in Vietnam was 15 years old?  Neither did we!

Getting done with my blog early tonight....might head over to the outdoor movie "True Grit" being shown a block away.  That's life in New York City for today.  Stay tuned for tomorrow's report!
