Art Garden

Today we took a break from the typical "history" stuff and toured a garden and an art museum.  The garden was the The Longwood Garden started in the early 1900's by du Pont as a way to preserve the land, forests and grounds.  It's a beautiful garden and conservatory!  So hard to decide on what photos to show you.  They had two water fountains shows and the water lilies ponds were beautiful and fantastic!  Water lilies in the wild are hard to photograph as they are usually far from shore or far from a sturdy path to view them.

Next we went to the Brandywine River Museum that had a lot of original & reproductions of local painters, mainly the Wyeth family. Many of the paintings I was not allowed to photograph, but here's some that are my favorites.

N.C. Wyeth, father of Andrew, painted this in 1933.  I thought the symbolism was great....black and white dog with black and white boys.

Andrew's son, Jamie painted this pig and I hope you can read the story that goes with this painting!

To follow along with the recent days theme of Revolutionary War, here is painting by Howard Pyle, another local artist.   The battle at Brandywine Creek was fought near here on 9/11/1777 with 30,000 British and Americans fighting.  After this Washington retreated to Valley Forge to re-group.
