I think that we have pretty much exhausted sites where George Washington has been! :) But we are going backwards on his travels.... first we went to tavern in NYC where he said "farewell" to his officers in 1783. Yesterday, we toured his Valley Forge stay in the winter of 1777. Today we walked around Philadelphia and saw the steps of George and our founding fathers from 1775-76. Here's the Liberty bell.
Independence Hall
Here is the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed. We felt so honored to be able to be in that room.
Washington was seated at the head of the tables in this spot
We also saw where the Supreme Court met for awhile, 1791-1800.
Philadelphia was the largest city in the nation at this time and served as our nation's capitol. The Christ Church was the home congregation to several founding fathers, in fact seven of the signers of declaration are buried on the grounds.
This is the parlor that Betsy Ross talked to the Revolutionary War members about creating them a flag. She was an upholsterer.
We did learn an interesting fact at this museum. Apparently these were fire marks that were put on the houses.
If you did not have one, the fire department was not responsible to attend to your fire. The predecessor of today's "insurance" plans.
The only downfall of the day was our Philly Cheese-steak sandwich. We heard that Sonny's was good and a couple of people suggested another place. The line at Sonny's was long and we didn't feel like waiting so we went to the other place with no line. Mistake! Not very memorable.....Jason's Deli (the franchise) does a better cheese steak sandwich. Time to find another place to eat. So long...more Pennsylvania tomorrow.
